Radouan Mriziga draws on the mythological narratives of Amazigh culture to reveal the spiritual, artistic, artisanal, scientific and philosophical richness of those who, in particular, maintain close ties with the Atlas Mountains of North Africa. In his performance Atlas / the Mountain, he takes on the guise of a half-man, half-animal figure—horns on his head, bells at his wrists and ankles—and draws on tradition to present a body propelled into a continuous spiral.
In constant evolution, as if challenging the mountainous space—both a metaphysical symbol and a link between sky and earth—he presents an abstract, enigmatic choreography, at once hypnotic and insistent, set to compelling rhythms that draw us into his journey. Through his embodied presence, his initiatory voyage becomes our own.
